The Wand'rer's Song
A. Foote
I'm a wand'rer blithe and gay,
Know no care nor sorrow;
Drinking from the spring today,
Good Rhinewine tomorrow.
On I trudge through wet and dry
Free from thought of sadness;
This my motto: "What care I?
Life is full of gladness."
So I sing my jovial strain:
What care I? What care I?
Amen, Amen, Amen.
Jolly host, the goblet fill;
Come, bestir thee quicker!
Hostess I would try thy skill,
Quaff thy choicest liquor!
And if I can't pay today,
Never trouble borrow,
Check it up without delay,
Sure I'll pay tomorrow.
So I sing my jovial strain:
What care I? What care I?
Amen, Amen, Amen.
Pretty maiden, have a care,
Spend no time in grieving;
Love like mine is light as air,
Is but vain deceiving.
Trav'ler's vows are soon forgot,
So maids oft discover,
Pretty maiden, weep thou not
For thy fickle lover.
Amen! Amen! Amen!
