Know'st thou the Land

A. Mounsey

Know'st thou the land the Citron's blooming

Where glows the Orange thro' its green array?

From the blue skies where gentle breezes roam

And round the Myrtle and the laurel play?

Know'st thou the land?

Oh! thither, away

Come, let us go! My guide, my only, stay.

Know'st thou the dome, the roof on pillars high

Those gorgeous halls, where countless splendors shine

Where marble figures stand, that seem to sigh,

"Poor Child, What hast thou borne! what ills are thine!"

Say, dost thou know?

Oh! thither to flee

Fain would I hence, protected, led by thee.

Know'st thou the hills, whose sides the clouds enfold

Where seeks the wilder'd mule his misty road?

The caves where dwelt the dragon brood of old

The the mighty cliffs that break the spreading flood?

Oh! Dost thou know? '

Tis thitherward

Lo! Now leads our path, My Father, let us go!
