Deep within my heart I harbour anguish

Adolph Bernhard Marx

Deep within my heart I harbour anguish,

Outwardly I must be silent.

I conceal the beloved pain

Assiduously from the face of the world;

And only the soul feels it,

For the body does not deserve it.

As the spark, free and bright,

Conceals itself within the pebble,

I harbour anguish deep within myself.
