I am in loneliness no longer alone

Alphons Diepenbrock

I am in loneliness no longer alone,

for where my gazes wander over the walls,

thither floats thy laughing, countless times

I hear thy footsteps in the ticking of the clock.

And slowly thou approachest from so far, so small.

I see a broad, misty halo suround thee with a pale

lightless veil,

Then thy gentle steps descend softly towards me.

Thy breath stirs me, thou hast appeared

I see thine eyes lock into mine eyes

I listen in the wind, that moans past the windowpanes

and through the chimney, for your words

So terribly sad and fragile, I see you standing there

with head declined to weep in my arms.
