The thinly-sown cornfield is parched
Anton von Webern
The thinly-sown cornfield is parched
Since after the harsh frosts it has already felt
the warm light of spring and the teeth of the plough
And is exhausted after the impact of last year's storms.
Let me now have a fruitful bath, a refreshing drink,
From your naked breast a shock of flowers
The odours of your tousled hair
Your breath, your tears, your mouth's dampness.
