Dusk

C. Gibbs

Velvet the sky,

Ghostly the roses glow,

Sunset still burns

Out in the bay.

High overhead

Glimmers the ev'ning star,

Dusk dreams o'er the dying day.

Ah! Now my sad heart with loneliness aches,

Why must my true love so long be away?

Breathless the air,

Heavy the scent of flow'rs,

Red in the west

Ceases to burn.

Only the star,

Shining more brightly now,

Fills me with hope that my Love will return
