Song of a tailor
Carl Loewe
There once was a tailor,
who had a magic yardstick:
the yardstick was made of diamonds,
his thimble of sugar candy.
His ruler was a spider web,
a gnat's stinger, he sewed with.
His scissors were of golden sunshine,
and he loved a maiden.
Oh richest tailor in the world,
how does all your magic wealth help you!
His heart was also made of sugar candy,
but hers was made of diamond.
Then spoke to the heart of sugar candy
the heart of diamond thus:
If your yardstick is unbreakable
And your thimble never melts,
If your ruler never shatters
And your needle punctures gold,
And if your heart is diamond,
Mine must also become sugar candy!
