The advent of spring
Carl Loewe
My heart is constructed, withering,
smothered by night in a desolate place.
One can hardly find a darker dream,
anguish groaning in its cramped room.
Then there comes Spring: the warm air,
the green woods, the blue sky,
the entire land a bouquet of flowers;
it makes the chest expand so powerfully.
The world is so fair and the heart so broad:
let the grandeur of the world pour into my heart!
