The ring-dove
Édouard Cazaneuve
With its soft plaintive song
this white dove takes your fancy.
If you would like it as your captive,
Sylvie, I will fetch it for you.
But close to you here in my breast
my heart sings like that dove.
If you would like to steal it,
wicked girl, it will be better off as yours.
To make it your prisoner
like a white dove you keep for yourself,
just place your hands like two wings
on my heart, this trembling little bird.
