Ihr Nixen, Gnomen, Elfen,
All you nixies, gnomes, elves
in Höhlen, Wald, und Moor,
In caves and forests and moors,
herbei! herbei!
Appear! Appear!
Ihr müsst uns helfen,
You must help us,
o säumt nicht,
Oh do not tarry,
kommt hervor!
Appear!
Erst lasst uns Kränze winden,
First, wind garlands for us,
bringt Blumen schnell heran,
Quickly bring flowers along,
rings an die Bäume binden
We shall then tie them to the trees
wir sie als Schaukeln an;
And use them as swings;
d'rin sollt ihr ein uns wiegen,
You shall rock us in them,
bewegt sie hin und her
Sway us to and fro
bis wir im Schlummer liegen,
Till we fall asleep –
die Last ist ja nicht schwer.
We are not heavy to push.

Wenn wir entschlafen,
When we have fallen asleep,
weidet euch still an unsrer Ruh,
You can relish in silence our rest
und führt uns, eh' ihr scheidet,
And lead us, before you depart,
noch heitre Träume zu!
Into the land of happy dreams!
