Some support was always found

Und habs gewendet mit Gewalt.

And I always applied it with force.

Sind all denn meine Kräft dahin,

Now all my strength is spent

Und alls verworren schon mein Sinn,

And my sense so bewildered

Dass ich kaum mehr besinnen kann,

That I can scarcely recall

Wer bin ich denn: der Jedermann,

Who I am: Everyman,

Der reiche Jedermann allzeit.

Still the wealthy Everyman.

Das ist mein Hand, das ist mein Kleid,

That is my hand, this is my cloak,

Und was da steht auf diesem Platz,

And that which I see before me,

Das ist mein Geld, das ist mein Schatz,

Durch den ich jederzeit mit Macht

Nun wird mir wohl, dass ich den seh

My spirits now rise when I see

Recht bei der Hand in meiner Näh.

My treasure near at hand.

Wenn ich bei dem verharren kann,

As long as it's safe by my side,

Geht mich kein Graus und Ängsten an.

I shall not feel terror or fear.

Weh aber, ich muss ja dorthin,

But alas, I must go to that place -

Das kommt mir jählings in den Sinn.

It suddenly flashed through my mind.

Der Bot war da, die Ladung ist beschehn,

The Messenger came, the summons arrived,

Nun heisst es auf und dorthin gehn.

I must now set out for that place.

Nit ohne dich, du musst mit mir,

But not without you, you must come with me,

Lass dich um alles nit hinter mir.

On no account shall I leave you here.

Du musst jetzt in ein andres Haus,

You must now go to another house,

Drum auf mit dir und schnell heraus.

So up you get and quickly leave!
