Ist alls zu End das Freudenmahl,

Is the banquet now all over,

Und alle fort aus meinem Saal?

Has everyone left my hall?

Bleibt mir keine andre Hilfe dann,

Is there no other help for me,

Bin ich denn ein verlorner Mann?

Am I a lost soul?

Und ganz alleinig in der Welt,

And am I quite alone in the world?

Ist es schon so um mich bestellt,

Has my fate already been sealed,

Hat mich Der schon dazu gemacht,

Has He reduced me to this state,

Ganz nackend und ohn alle Macht,

Quite naked and deprived of power,

Als läg ich schon in meinem Grab,

As if I were already in my grave,

Wo ich doch mein warm Blut noch hab

Even though my blood's still warm

Und Knecht mir noch gehorsam sein

And my servants still obedient

Und Häuser viel und Schätze mein.

And my houses and wealth still mine?

Auf! Schlagt die Feuerglocken drein!

Get up! Sound the fire-bell!

Ihr Knecht, nit lungert in dem Haus.

Servants, stop idling about the house,

Kommt allesamt zu mir heraus!

Come out to me, each one of you!

Ich muss schnell eine Reise tun

I've a journey to make without delay,

Und das zu Fuss und nit zu Wagen,

On foot, though, and not by carriage,

Gesammte Knecht, die sollen mit

All my servants shall come with me

Und meine grosse Geldtruhen,

And they shall bring out

Die sollen sie herbeitragen.

My vast treasure chests.

Die Reis wird wie ein Kriegszug scharf,

This journey will be as harsh as a battle,

Dass ich der Schätze sehr bedarf.

So I shall have great need of my treasure.
