Tobacco

Georg Philipp Telemann

In all lexicons, in all dictionaries,

there is no more beautiful word than tobacco.

This word refreshes my mind,

this word reduces me, by its long goodness,

by lovely night and delightful day.

You German grammaticians!

Tobacco pays you with right by nominibus

of the male sex;

because tobacco is not for cattle,

which are of neuter sex;

neither for women,

who are female;

because if we go on gender,

then it appears as one concludes,

by reason it belongs rightly only to men:

therefore women are excluded,

who are of common gender.
