La barque sur l'eau qui jase
The boat on the rippling water
Promène des amoureux,
Bears lovers along,
Qui tous deux avec emphase
Who both vehemently
Echangent d'éternels voœux.
Exchange eternal vows.
Mais l'eau verte qui ruisselle
But the green water that streams
En son clapotis leur dit:
In its bubbling says to them:
Que vite, plus vite qu'elle,
That quickly, faster than the water itself,
L'amour, ici bas s'en fuit.
Love here below, is fleeing.
