A Clarion Call

H. Gál

Whither bound? Whither bound, oh world?

in gloom like deepest night?

The sun and moon seem darkened;

eerie light of shadowy stars

make darkness deeper.

Mankind weak and faltering wait

the appalling force of evil and of hate,

loosed on our uncertainty,

Pause now, oh world,

before it is too late!

Let not these troubled days

obliterate the greatness of your heritage,

Oh world, arise!

A clarion call for courage sound this hour,

for strength and faith and majesty of power,

A clarion call!
