Now give thanks and give honour
Josephine Lang
Now give thanks and give honour,
All ye people in the world,
To Him whose praise the host of angels
Constantly sings in Heaven.
Bestir yourselves and sing resoundingly
To God, our greatest treasure,
Who carries out his miracles everywhere
And does great things.
Who, from our mother's womb
Has sustained us in vigour and health,
And who, where no human can help,
Places Himself as the helper.
Who, although we have greatly grieved him,
Still remains of good cheer,
Who waives punishment, forgives transgression,
And does everything good for us.
May He give us a joyful heart,
Refresh mind and spirit,
And throw all apprehension, fear, anxiety, and pain
Into the depths of the sea.
May He let His peace rest
Upon Israel's land,
May He give Godspeed to our labour
And salvation wherever we stand.
May He let his love and beneficence
Accompany us, be around, beside and with us,
But let that which frightens and troubles us,
Remain far away from us.
As long as this life lasts,
May He ever be our salvation,
And remain our lot also when we
Depart from this earth.
May He, when our hearts break in death, press
Our eyes shut Himself,
And show us thereupon His face
There in that place of eternal rest.
