My love gleams
Ladislao (László) de Makray
My love gleams
in dark splendour,
like a fairy tale, sad and gloomy,
told on a summer's night:
"In a magic garden wander
two lovers, mute and alone;
nightingales are singing,
the moonlight glimmers.
"The maiden stands as silent as a picture,
and the knight kneels before her.
There comes the giant of the wilderness,
and the frightened maiden flees.
"The knight sinks bleeding to the ground,
the giant stumbles home -"
When I've been buried,
then will this tale be done.
