In foreign land
Leonard Pieter Joseph Michielsen
In foreign land I lie.
The moon shines a painted white
above my encampment.
I lifted my head, first I thought,
it is the glow of the dawn,
that I saw glimmering,
then however, I knew:
the moon, the moon,
and its face inclined to the earth.
And my home beckoned to me from afar.
