Last night

M. Brahe

Last night there was a whisp'ring in the trees,

A gentle quiver,

As if a passing breeze

Had made them shiver.

Last night there was a trembling in the ground

On every side;

And at the sound

The winter died.

Last night the elves and fairies made

A fairy ring:

And there they danced

With love and Spring.
