My child, remain here with me

Mily Alexeyevich Balakirev

My child,

remain here with me.

In the water, existence is open and free,

yet cold and still.

I will call my sisters

and we will join together in a dancing-circle;

we will chase away your sad gaze

and weary spirit.

Sleep; your bed is soft

and your cover is gauzy;

years and then centuries will pass

amid the babble of wonderful dreams.

O my dear, I do not conceal

that I love you;

I love you as one would love a free stream,

as one would love life itself.
