Farewell

O. Weil

Ye lofty crags o'er which I loved to roam,

Ye gentle vales that erst were strange to me,

That caused my heart to long so wearily

for other scenes, but that now are my home!

at last the longing once so lightly stirred!

To many a tender bond and tie gave place

on ev'ry side I see a friendly face,

and yet, at last must say the parting word.

Ye crags and valleys I must say farewell!

How hard to part 'tis harder still to tell!

Farewell! a long farewell. At last must come the sad, sad, word, farewell!
