He who chooses music
Paul Hindemith
He who chooses music
has received a divine good,
for its ultimate origin is
taken from Heaven itself,
because the angels are usually
musicians themselves.
If someday on the Day of Judgment
everything dissipates like smoke,
in eternity there will remain
music, which will persist,
because the angels are usually
musicians themselves.
For its ultimate origin is
taken from Heaven itself,
He who chooses music
has received a divine good.
He who does not listen to music
has lost his best solace,
for its divine sound makes
our hearts feel born anew.
Since God on the Day of Creation
first awakened to life his creation
and to the weakly children of man
reached his hand,
all the seraphim have chanted,
and all the cherubim have sang.
For their divine singing makes
our hearts feel born anew;
he who does not listen to music
has lost his best solace.
