You, you majestic ones!

Thomas F. Schubert

You, you majestic ones! You stand like a host of titans

from a tamer world, and you belong only to yourselves, to heaven,

who nourished and raised you, and to the Earth, who bore you.

None of you has walked yet in the school of man,

and you spring, joyous and free, from strong roots,

seizing space, like an eagle its prey,

with powerful arms; and to the clouds

you direct your sunny crowns, fine and great.

Each of you is a world, like the stars of the sky

you live, each a god, together in free union.
