Consolation

V. Spencer

Cease oh! cease to mourn

Over failures and faults With a heart forlorn,

No striving is unavailing.

One day comes strength,

And lo! at length

Completion- power prevailing.

What is hoped and thought

Though not full-wrought

Abideth but time's fulfillment;

In the marble block,

Sleeps the sunny lock

Of beauty in vain concealment.

One forming blow,

A day's fevered glow,

And thy temple stands before thee;

The clouds will break

That thy darkness make,

And God shine o'er thee.
