Das Marienbild
Schubert, Franz
Sei gegrüsst, du Frau der Huld,
Hail, gracious Lady
Und der reinen, schönen Minne,
of pure, fair love,
Ohne Makel, ohne Schuld,
without blemish, without guilt,
Und von demutsvollem Sinne!
humble in spirit.
Fromme Einfalt wölbte dir
In pious simplicity
Diese ärmliche Kapelle
this lowly chapel was raised to you
In den Stamm der Eiche hier
in the trunk of this oak,
Ohne Säulen, ohne Schwelle.
with neither pillars nor threshold.
Vögelein auf jedem Ast
On every bough
Singen deinem Kindlein Lieder.
birds sing their songs to your child;
Durchs Gezweig im goldnen Glast
angels, bathed in golden radiance,
Steigen Engel auf und nieder.
move up and down amid the branches.
Und dem Herzen wird so leicht,
And the heart, though oppressed with grief,
Wär es auch von Gram umsponnen,
is made light;
Und dem Pilger wird gereicht
and the pilgrim finds refreshment
Labung aus dem Gnadenbronnen.
at the fount of grace.
Wohl ein Hüttlein baut ich gern
I would fain build a little hut
Hier im stillen Waldesgrunde,
here in the silent forest,
Dass mir dieser Meeresstern
that the star of the sea
Leuchte nun um jede Stunde;
might shine for me now and always;
Dass in diesem kleinen Raum
That in this small space
Mir der Himmel angehöre,
heaven might be mine,
Dass kein banger, böser Traum
and that no troubled, evil dream
Meinen letzten Schlummer störe.
might disturb my last sleep.
