Schwingt sich über den Strom, wo er vorbei dir glänzt,
a bridge stretches over the shimmering river,
Leicht und kräftig die Brücke,
Radiant and strong,
Die von Wagen und Menschen tönt.

fesselt' der Zauber auch mich, da herein in die Berge
the enchanting power also held me captive,
Mir die reizende Ferne schien.
Where the alluring distance sparkled back at me from the mountains.
Du hast dem Flüchtigen
You have granted
kühlenden Schatten geschenkt
the light-footed, cool shade;
und die Gestade sahen
The banks gazed anxiously,
ihm alle nach und es tönte
and how lovely their reflection
aus den Wellen das liebliche Bild.

Sträuche blühten herab, bis wo im heitern Tal,
Bushes bloomed, bent down to the peaceful valley,
An den Hügel gelehnt, oder dem Ufer hold,
Leaning against the slope or toward the water,
Deine fröhlichen Gassen
The bustle of your streets
Unter duftenden Gärten ruhn.
resting beneath fragrant gardens.
